The country has introduced a new test that assesses the likelihood of Down syndrome in a child as early as the 10th week of pregnancy.
“The method allows not only to detect Down syndrome, but also other chromosomal abnormalities, specifically Edwards and Patau syndromes. The new approach significantly reduces the need for invasive diagnostic methods such as amniocentesis and chorionic biopsy. <…> This test offers a timely evaluation of the health status of the unborn child. The accuracy of early diagnosis gives parents and doctors the necessary time to prepare and make decisions, which is crucial with complex cases.”

The test itself was developed by the British company Yourgene Health.
